1st Designing Conversations: Welcoming Wor/ds: Brazil Encounters

Brazil Encounters

Topic: Innovative research designs : what are we really talking about?

On the 6th September 2016 a workshop was given in Breda by two PhD researchers from The University of Sao Paulo Brasil.
In this workshop, different ways to look at research were explored. The facilitators asked the question: What counts as innovation, and for whom?
The workshop emphasized specific ways of innovating, which is not about creating something entirely new, but rather making new connections among elements there are already there. The facilitators called the attention on how these new connections can be accomplished by means of looking carefully to the daily practices.
Finally they presented some directions towards action for research innovation that researchers should always take into account. They named four:

  • keep you questioning;
  • connect it to different contexts;
  • bring your own stories in;
  • invite others into the conversation

This workshop was developed  in partnership between the University of Sao Paulo and NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences. It is also a collaboration between LAPEPG and Designing Conversations Lab.

Facilitators of the workshop:
Pedro P. S. Martins, MSc, is a Ph.D. candidate and a researcher of the Laboratory of Research and Studies in Group Practices (LAPEPG) at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. His research focuses on the creation of generative conversational resources that bridge academic and practical knowledge in a variety of contexts, especially healthcare.
Giovanna C. Doricci, MSc,  is a  Ph.D. candidate and a researcher of the Laboratory of Research and Studies in Group Practices (LAPEPG) at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Her research focuses on the field of Social Psychology, in the context of Brazilian Public Healthcare, looking at ways in which news forms of management can be developed.
